November 1923. Franz Kafka, suffering from tuberculosis, takes a refreshing walk in the park. He comes across a little girl in tears: her doll has disappeared. Kafka bends down: ‘Your doll isn't lost, she's gone on a trip.’ ‘On a journey? But how do you know?’ ‘I know because... she wrote to me.’ ‘You're talking nonsense!’ ‘Tomorrow, I'll bring you the letter she sent me.’ And for weeks, every day, Kafka carefully wrote another letter to the child. The letters were lost. 100 years later, Thomas Gunzig had fun rewriting them. An adventurous, humorous, whimsical, emancipatory tale. An ode to the imagination. The LéZaâr Company brings the epistolary narrative to life on stage through the physical performance of two actors, an elaborate soundscape and a few clever tricks, combining mime, shadow theatre, puppetry, dance, homage to 1920s cinema, humour and poetry.
