For 14 years, the Brussels-based non-profit organisation BahVoyons! has been travelling the roads of Belgium with CinéSoupe: a travelling programme of short films that aims to showcase the variety of contemporary creativity through the short film format, which is so rarely represented on the big screen. Each year, CinéSoupe presents five new selections of international short films adapted to different age groups, accessible to a wide school audience aged 3 to 18. Each screening is supervised by two facilitators who introduce the session with a presentation of small optical toys from the pre-cinema era (thaumatrope, folioscope) to introduce the concept of frame-by-frame animation, and follow the screening with a discussion of the films seen, focusing as much on the techniques used as on the themes evoked. CinéSoupe is a great way to learn about today's cinema while having fun learning how to analyse the world around us!
