Of heavenly and earthly love takes you on a musical journey through divine, earthly, and erotic love in 16th- and 17th-century Italian and English music. The Hathor Consort, known for its mastery of historical instruments, joins forces with countertenor Marnix De Cat, praised for his expressive and authentic performances. Together, they present songs by composers such as Benedetto Ferrari and Henry Lawes, alongside virtuosic instrumental works by Isabella Leonarda, Kapsberger, and Diego Ortiz. These instrumental pieces explore the art of distilling polyphony into a single melodic line, allowing for subtle improvisation and refined ornamentation by the performers.
